The GEO Information Communication Technology sector (ICT) is a strong sector providing an important added value, jobs and delivers innovative products and services. This sector deals mainly with information related to geographical location through providing solutions in the area of the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) which are designed to gather, store, process, analyze, manage, organize, present and diffuse all types of geographical data. The GEO-ICT sector includes thus ICT-based products and services related to four main types of activity which are: acquisition, processing, storage and diffusion of geo-information.
The first part of this report analyzes the private GEO-ICT sector. The results are mainly centered on estimated data related to Turnover, Employment, and Labor Productivity of 59 companies throughout Belgian territory over the period 2001-2010. This part ends with forecasts about the economic performances and trends of the private sector for the next years.
The second part dealt with the public GEO-ICT sector through the analysis of four main public institutions that are active within the GEO-ICT sector.
The report ends with a general conclusion that summarizes the overall trends of the GEO-ICT sector as a whole.
We would like to thank Tanguy De Lestré from AGORIA for his trust and Pico Lantini from SIRRIS for the support he provided us during our work;
We also would like to thank Madam Ingrid Vanden Berghe from IGN, Guido D’hoker from IGN, Jean Claude Jasselette and Patrick Snakenbroek from SPW, Claude Hannecart from CIRB and Jo Van Valckenborgh from AGIV for the interviews and their precious time they shared with us.
